I have to apologize, I am getting closer to moving and my posts have become slim.
I recently read the book “Grace Based Parenting” by Dr. Tim Kimmel. In my opinion, it is a home run and greatly resembles the type of parenting model I strive to follow.
Pastor Kimmel explains that sometimes we raise children in a very rigid and strict environment and this often leads to resentment and children “acting” like Christians while in the home but in reality their faith and relationship with God is simply to appease their parents and once the kids leave the home, the faith and relationship with God ends.
I started a discussion on this topic on Crosswalk and quickly learned that unless you read the whole book, it is very easy to misunderstand this concept of parenting or think that being less strict equals having no guidelines or boundaries.
I invite you to listen to a discussion with the author as it explains better than I can his philosophy on parenting: Part 1 and Part 2.
This then lead to a discussion on Condemning the World versus living as Christians in it which also yielded some great discussions and learning.
I want to thank all those who got involved in these discussions, I saw a wide variety of opinions on the subject but one thing is for sure, we all want to raise are children right and are doing the best we can to accomplish this task.
